About the Journal

The Colombian Journal of Radiology (CJR) was created in 1989 publishing the first volume of the journal in the second semester of that year as “May-August” issue.

The Bogotá Radiology Association (BRA) was its first director and responsible entity. The BRA work address was also its address. Since its creation, it was accepted by the assembly of partners as the official journal of the Colombian Society of Radiology (CSR).

Its creator, first director and editor was Dr. Carlos Santiago Restrepo Uribe. Dr. Carlos A Jiménez Cuervo acted as associate director, and doctors Sonia Bermúdez and Álvaro Tafur as Editor-in-Chief and associate editor, respectively.

At that time, it had an editorial committee made up of radiologists, René González, Fernando Medina, Luis Heber Ulloa, Hernando Morales, Mauricio Lozano, Hernán Pinto, Gabriel Dib, Fernando Gómez, Juan Carlos Mantilla and Jimmy Cure.

In 2000, at the beginning of the second decade, financial support was assumed by the Colombian Radiology Association, which by then was already a permanent organization made up of members from all over the country with a sponsorship program that allowed companies to jointly sponsor activities of the association where the national congress and its publications were included.

This journal is nourished by scientific works carried out by radiologists in our country. Many of the articles that are published arise from the topics presented annually at the Colombian Congress of Radiology, some of them as invited submissions. Of course, we also publish articles by specialists from other countries. Thus, we have published original articles from Venezuela, Argentina and Spain. Most of the authors have been Colombian radiologists and doctors. Radiologists from other Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and Spain, as well as biologist, radiologic technologists and engineers, are also increasing.

It has been a pioneer in communicating advances in diagnostic imaging. Since 2004, some issues have been dedicated to the exclusive publication of the scientific production of hospitals/universities that have a postgraduate degree in radiology such as, Javeriana University, Military University - Nueva Granada, National University, Antioquia University, CES University, El Bosque University (Santa Fe de Bogotá Foundation - University Hospital), Del Rosario University (Cardioinfantil Foundation), University Children's Hospital of San José, the University Foundation of Health Sciences and the Institute of High Medical Technology of Antioquia.

The first online issue was published in 2011, supported in its entire structure by the CSR, in which the work of engineer Alejandro Mazo stands out. Since then and without interruption it has been published on the association's web page and all its contents can be consulted.

In 2017, an editorial decision was made to publish the complete journal in Spanish and English. The printed edition continues only in Spanish. However, English version is completely available online. English translations are free of charge for the authors, as the Association assumes the translation of all articles within the publication costs.

By 2020, The journal is publishing its volume number 31, it is a bilingual journal with an editorial group, scientific committee, a group of high-quality referees, and has participation of Colombian and Latin American authors. The journal is completely available online and can be freely consulted on the internet from anywhere in the world.
